The depressing and concise response is “no.” In Minecraft, it is not possible to tame a dolphin or ride one.

Despite this, there are a great many additional areas in which dolphins may be of use to you.

Friends at Sea

In Minecraft, if you exit a Boat near to a Dolphin while the game is active, you will instantly get a bonus, provided that you are not disguised by the Invisibility effect.
Any player that is sprint swimming while under the influence of the status effect known as “Dolphin’s Grace” will be able to complete their swims more quickly. To experience the impact, all that is required of you is to be in the Water and no more than 9 blocks away from a Dolphin. Additionally, the Dolphins will follow you around while you swim, continually bestowing the buff on you as they do so.

This effect helps you swim faster than riding a Boat, and it stacks with other effects like Enchantments or Depth Strider to further increase your swimming speed.

You may check to see whether the effect is still functioning in the Java Edition of the game by entering your Inventory and searching for the small Dolphin symbol that appears there. You will get the same boost when in Bedrock, but it will not be shown as a status effect.

Using Dolphins to Find Treasure in Minecraft

Dolphins are not only able to assist you in swimming faster, but they also have a vast amount of knowledge about the ocean.

Unfortunately, feeding dolphins does not help them reproduce or make them more docile. Nevertheless, it will assist you in gaining their “trust.” If you feed a dolphin raw salmon or raw cod, you will see that it will immediately swim away into the distance after eating it.

If you pursue it, they will direct you to the closest shipwreck, ocean ruin, or buried treasure if you follow in their footsteps.

You can make continuous use of their assistance in order to search for treasures. Once it has been fed, a Dolphin will search these places for the Chests and bring them to you. Therefore, if you destroy the Chests, the Dolphin will just take you to the next one in the sequence.

In addition to this, it will steer clear of potential threats such as Guardians and Elder Guardians. This ensures that you won’t be in danger, but it also makes it impossible for you to locate any Ocean Temples with this method.

Keeping Dolphins as Pets in Minecraft

Unfortunately, dolphins cannot be domesticated or reproduced, but that won’t stop us from making the most of the situation we’re in!

Dolphins, much like Polar Bears and a large number of other Mobs, may be led with a Lead and moved. This is also possible with other Mobs. If you read the post that we wrote on taming polar bears, you will find that we have created a whole enclosure for our large companions that is similar to a zoo.

Something quite similar is possible to do with dolphins as well.

It’s possible that setting up an aquarium would be the best thing to do for a display on dolphins. I like constructing expansive aquariums inside my bases and often populate them with a diverse assortment of Coral, Fish, and Turtles; hence, the inclusion of a Dolphin would be an excellent choice.

However, the most challenging aspect of maintaining Dolphins is not leading them back to your base, even if this is also a challenge in and of itself. They cannot be stored in a Bucket as fish can, nor can they be carried in a Boat like fish can.

The best way to lead them is with a standard lead, however the most difficult aspect is to keep them contained inside the aquarium or fish tank.

Although they must have air to breathe, dolphins must also remain in the water at all times. This implies that their aquarium has to have a hole in it so they may leap out and breathe, but it also needs to be designed in a way that prevents them from totally exiting the water.

Can dolphins make babies in Minecraft?

In ocean biomes that have not been frozen over, dolphins will spawn. They often do so in groups of up to five, and around 10% of the offspring from each spawn will be baby dolphins. There is no limit on the number of dolphins that may spawn, and the game will generate more of them on their own as the world progresses. In Minecraft, breeding dolphins is not yet possible.

So, is it possible to domesticate a dolphin in Minecraft? I’m sorry to say that the answer is no in this case. It is disappointing that (as of right now) it is not possible to tame the dolphins and ride on them, since this is something that should most certainly be an option.
